Friday Psalm 130

Prayer: Thank you, gracious God, for the sunlight and for You watching with me in the night. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sunset, sunrise

my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning,

Often births and deaths occur in the dark of night.  Long nights have been spent waiting for time to pass while waiting for good news.  Those nights often feel like the go on forever and the whole world is at sleep and almost nothing is being done and we are the lonely ones waiting in the dark.  Our DW writes; “The night becomes a deep chasm that swallows our voice.  We feel so alone. The dawn seems a million miles away, and in that moment, we wonder if it will ever arrive.  Can we hold on until it does?

God never sleeps.  He is awake when everyone else is asleep.  He hears our cries in the darkness:

O Israel, hope in the Lord!

Prayer: “Stay ever at my side, Lord, through the long watches of literal or figurative night. Amen.”

Psalm 130

Waiting for Divine Redemption

A Song of Ascents.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
    Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
    Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you,
so that you may be revered.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.

O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
It is he who will redeem Israel
    from all its iniquities.
