Wednesday 1 Kings 2:1-4

Prayer: Lord, let you servants abide by your Word, in Christ. Amen

Keep the faith

Be strong, be courageous, and keep the charge of the Lord your God (vs. 2-3)

In our devotion writer’s example today, our devotion writer writes; “She was friendly and full of joy, a woman of great faith and wisdom. Her body was giving in to the ravages of ALS, yet Evan was the strongest, most courageous person I knew…Asked how she remained so cheerful, Eva told us she prayed daily: ‘My times are in your hand’ (Psalm 31:15).  She believed that her next breath was a gift from God. The more she relied on God, the more Eva felt God’s presence, strength and joy Eva said, ‘why should I look in a tiny rearview mirror at what was when I can look through a huge windshield at the glorious future ahead?’

We are often brought up believing that our future is in our own hands.  We are taught this is school and by family. It is confusing when we go to church and read the Bible when we read that our futures are in God’s hands.  Which is it? Maybe it is both. All that we have is a gift from God to use and enjoy. We are called to use these gifts to share with others and to use wisely and joyfully as God gives us opportunity

As David tells Solomon in today’s text we are called to keep the faith and let God lead us forward using the blessings He has given us. To look forward through the windshield instead of the rearview mirror

Prayer: “O Lord, my times are in your hands. Guide me, so each day of my life may bring honor and glory to you. Amen.”

1 Kings 2:1-4

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

David’s Instruction to Solomon

2 When David’s time to die drew near, he charged his son Solomon, saying: “I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, be courageous, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn. Then the Lord will establish his word that he spoke concerning me: ‘If your heirs take heed to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you a successor on the throne of Israel.’
