Prayer: Praise to you, O God, for the truths in your Word, in Christ’s name. Amen.
Life within the city of God
8 God is king over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.
Ancient cities were built around a fortress. The fortress was built upon the highest hill (the acro polis), and the fortress was the stronghold of military defenses. The walls of the fortress stretched out to surround the city. The city’s largest temple sat upon the acropolis like a crown jewel. This reminded the citizens of their belief in their god and the protection that the god provided.
This is the image of God’s kingdom which provides power and strength to ensure our hope for safe, free, and happy lives! Our devotion writer declares; “We live within the city of God, both here and now and in the hope of the life to come. God provides for our safety, watches over us, and is King of all creation. Do not fret or fear; do not search for power and strength in the things of this life. God’s grace and faithfulness are all we need. It is enough. God sits upon the throne and encircles us with arms of compassion and love. We stand before this throne and give thanks.”
Prayer: “Enable me, O God, to live freely, fearlessly, and joyfully under your love and protection. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

God’s Rule over the Nations
To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.
1 Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy. 2 For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth. 3 He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. 4 He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.Selah
5 God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. 7 For God is the king of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm.
8 God is king over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. 9 The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted.
