Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for the many blessings you provide for us every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
2 Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
It is said that God is good and God likes us to thank Him. Today’s Psalm also makes it clear that we should come into His presence with praise and thanksgiving. Today is a day that we have set aside to give thanks. Special thanks. The harvest is done and put up for the winter. Once again God has blessed us with enough, even more than enough. Yet even with all we have today there are still those who are poor and needy. Each year we give more and more, yet we still have people suffering.
We are called to work and volunteer and give to help those who need. We want all people to share in the joy and satisfaction of counting our blessings whatever they are. So, we give turkeys and the fixin’s to many who otherwise would not have. We volunteer to the soup kitchens to feed the homeless.
We do this and if we are not doing it with joy and thanksgiving we are not sharing in the Spirt. Let us this day as we gather together, focus our thanks and song to God, the Creator, for the plenty that He gives to us.
Our devotion writer puts it this way; God is at work in worship, serving us! Our liturgy is the work of God’s people. We worship God and give thanks for the Bread of Life as we serve life-giving bread to our neighbors.”
Prayer: “Thank you, O God, for your steadfast love and grace that permeate our worship and our service. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
All Lands Summoned to Praise God
A Psalm of thanksgiving.
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.
3 Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.
5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
